What led to the murder of the victim, who was said to be an indigene of the area, could not be ascertained.

But Trojan.com.ng gathered that his assailants stabbed him multiple times and beheaded him.

“They cut off his head and stabbed him anyhow,” a source in the area said.

The incident, however, sparked protest as some angry youths from the area mobilised to the scene and blocked the Zarama-Mbiama section of the East-West Road for several hours.

The protest resulted in gridlock and disrupted vehicular movement, leaving many travellers stranded.

Contacted, the spokesman for the state Police Public Relations Officer, Asinim Butswat, confirmed the incident.

In a response to inquiries by our correspondent, Butswat said, “On March 13, 2023, one Alexander Diri ‘m’ 49 was murdered by suspected herders at Yambiri community, Zarama, Yenagoa Local Government Area, Bayelsa State.

“Police detectives have visited the scene and the corpse was evacuated to the hospital for autopsy. The investigation is ongoing.”
