305Bn INEC’s Budget: Commission Starts Enjoying Instalmental Payment – INEC Chairman

THE National Chairman of Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) Professor Mahmoud Yakubu has said that the Commission has started enjoying an instalmental payment as part of the N305bn budgeted for 2023 general election.

Making the disclosure during a Media Chat with Newsmen in Kano on Wednesday the Chairman explained that the National Assembly had already made appropriations to that effect.

He said though not the whole amount was dedicated to the Commission’s account but is being released gradually to meet up with the demands of the Commission.

He said though INEC has a huge budgetary allocation this time around but the logistics and electoral material ranging from the Electoral Box, Ink, Voting Papers and the manpower that would be required to work for the attainment of organisational objectives among others.

Professor Yakubu stated further that INEC is going to employ not fewer than one million Nigerians as adhoc Staff that would help the Commission to conduct a peaceful election.

The National Electoral Chairman gave assurances that INEC is not a political Party and would be up and doing in the discharged of its official responsibility. “INEC has no Candidate of its own but only what the electorate determined and whatever is determined by the Voters is what the Electoral body will declare at the end of it all.”

Yakubu who said he was in the state to asses the progress of the on going Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC)Registration, as well as to asses facilities meant for the successful conduct of the 2023 election.

Thirdly, he said, as a normal tradition, he has visited the Emir of Kano to informed him of the readiness of the Commission to conduct a free, fair election in the state.

” The Commission is now fully prepared Seven to Eight years away from now for the conduct of the election adding that new equipment for the exercise have been provided at sub regional levels . Siting Sokoto Zonal office with Zamfara and Kebbi states falling under it, while Kano state is another Zonal office with Jigawa, and Katsina states. respectively.

He said INEC will depens the use of Technology in its quest to have accurate results on line and that is why every week the commission is displaying the lists of registrants for Nigerians to be kept abreast with happenings in INEC.
