JORGE Vilda who won the 2023 Women’s World Cup for Spain in August is under investigation over the kissing scandal of ex-Spanish FA president Luis Rubiales.
Recall that Jorge Vilda was sacked about a month after helping the women’s team to win the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand as part of the fallout from the kissing scandal.
The kissing scandal happened on August 20 after the Women’s World Cup final between England and Spain which the Spanish side won 1-0.
During the medals presentation, the then Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) president allegedly kissed the team’s top forward Jenni Hermoso on her lips without her permission, according to Hermoso.
Rubiales who had to resign due to the allegation, has denied the charges of coercion and sexual assault leveled against him.
As part of the legal process to ascertain whether the former RFEF is guilty or not, Vilda who is seen as his close associate will appear before the Spanish National Court on October 10.
Vilda is reportedly being investigated for his alleged role in coercing Hermoso, who claimed that she, her family, and friends were under pressure to defend Rubiales’ actions. Hermoso made this claim in Spanish media but Vilda has denied it.
Albert Luque, the director of the men’s national team, and Ruben Rivera, the head of marketing for the RFEF, are both being investigated after being questioned as witnesses.
Rubiales has been given a restraining order prohibiting him from coming within 200 meters close to Hermoso.
