2023: Rotarian Monye Ehiwuogwu Lucky Rolls Out Agenda For Ika Federal Constituency

COMRADE Monye Ehiwuogwu Lucky is a visionary and intellectual titan who believes the only thing that can redeem the nation is a paradigm shift from political boju boju for change from the existing misnomer of crass parsimony of our politics that will embrace accountability, resoursfulness, integrity and true leadership. In this interview, He spoke with Ikatimesnewspaper.com publisher Citizen Miracle Ogor on telephone, he explains his foray into politics and how he hopes to effect positive change if elected as a legislator.
Excerpts:
IKATIMES: You’re an aspirant for the House of Reps 2023 general election, what’s your agenda for Ika Federal Constituency should you be elected into office?
RESPONSE;
Basically, the primary responsibility of a House of Reps member in the National Assembly is to articulate and sponsor bills in the general interest of your constituents. To actualise this, the Rep member is expected to hold regular town hall meetings with his people to feel their pulse, put that together and propel same for their benefits. That said, holding town hall meetings with our people would be a regular feature in the course of my representation. Having a constituency office is a must as that is the place majority of the people can have access to me. Alot of people cannot come to Abuja. At the constituency office, I will appoint a liaison officer who per time will interact with the people and feed me back to necessitate action. However, as a law maker, I will attract government presence in terms of developmental infrastructures (constituency projects) having consulted with the people to establish their needs. In Nigeria, there abound a lot of opportunities that remain untapped. I will create platforms for our people to actualise their dreams. For instance, Nigeria has Federal scholarship board that grants scholarships to young people to study. we can send our list to the Director General and he wouldn’t have a choice than to do it. there are Federal employments that I will seek out for our people. As a law maker, if you sit on your arm chair without seeking means to help your people, you can’t really make an impact. Skill acquisition centres will be instituted to enable those who desires to acquire skill to so do. I wish to promote the entertainment industry so that our youths who are talented can sufficiently thrive in their chosen carrier. I am a social crusader and hope to create a platform to continue to reorient particularly our youths. To achieve this, I will create a local radio station that will also help to promote our language, culture and traditions. Our people are my utmost priority in the scheme of things.
IKATIMES: There are many political bigwigs who are jostling for the same elective position and the person currently occupying it, do you think you have a chance?
RESPONSE;
I strongly believe that I stand a chance as my track records is a true testament of what I have capacity to do. I have since 2017 made my self available to our people politically and they know my antecedents and pedigree. Our people love me because they know that I am a man of the people. I am accessible and have a listening ear. I have overtime demonstrated very strong and very robust leadership qualities and I say this with all sense of humility and responsibility. I have through my Foundation (Monye Ehiwuogwu Lucky Foundation) given scholarships, created job opportunities for young people to excel in their chosen carrier. I have been making impact in the lives of the youths, widows and orphans, the records are there. At this time in our polity, we need young vibrant individuals with very humane spirits that are desirous to better the lives of our people. Serving the people is not a “tea party”, it requires commitment, dedication, loyalty and fidelity. The can do spirit is what we actually need at this material time. Our people are wiser now and politically savvy too and I think that they will vote wisely. Politics is not an “all comers affairs”. It’s not a platform to show affluence but to influence dividend deliverables for the betterment of our people.
  IKATIMES: You sound confident. Is this your first time in politics?
RESPONSE; No, and yes I actually joined politics in 2017 and my sojourn into active politics was informed by the antecedents and actions of our politicians who have sworn to impoverish the people. For them, it’s all about self aggrandisement and the quest to perpetuate themselves in office. At some point I told myself that we need to challenge the statusquo and stamp our feets in the sands of time. As a youth, I think our political elders are taking us for a ride and mortgaging our future. Politics shouldn’t be for “rice and stew very plenty”, it should be for service deliverables to the people. Unfortunately, the opposite it’s our lot. We must all work together to get our of this  conundrum and relieve our people from this quagmire.
IKATIMES: Is APC visible in Ika Federal Constituency?
RESPONSE; Yes it is.
IKATIMES: Does APC have the capacity to dislodge the PDP in Ika Federal Constituency?
RESPONSE; The APC has the capacity politically to dislodge the PDP in a free and fair contest.
 IKATIMES: Who are your godfathers and how much do you have to prosecute your electioneering?
RESPONSE; The Almighty God is my God father. He indeed have power to make kings. Proverbs 21: 1-9, “the heart of the king is in the hands of God” Proverbs 29: 2, “when the righteous is on the throne God’s people rejoice”. All power belongs to God. Is He alone that installs kings. God will attract men and women whom He will position to be my political destiny helpers. On prosecuting the electioneering campaign, firstly it is not how much that you have. Like any venture, it is the convinsion that matters most. I am convinced beyond reasonable doubt that it is doable.
IKATIMES: There’s the argument that Ika North East Reps hopefuls should allow those from Ika South Local government have a shot at the election as a result of earlier gentle man agreement. What’s your take one that?
RESPONSE;
I certainly agree that power should rotate between Ika South and Ika North East. There should be fairness, equity and justice in everything that we do. Without this, peace becomes elusive in any given society. Though the arrangement is not written, its only fair that we sustain rotation. A one sided representation could cause squabbles, strife and off course bad blood amongst people. For all inclusive representation, the two sister local governments must take their turns.
IKATIMES: Nigerians are saying your party, the APC has ruined the country in every respect, how do you hope to convince your people that things would change for the better should you be voted into office?
RESPONSE; Like every journey, APC is but only a vehicle that is taking us to our destination as far as my ambition to represent the good people of Ika Federal Constituency is concerned. The performance of APC does not in anyway diminish or plummet my capacity to deliver the dividends of democracy to our people. As a matter of fact, our people know that I have capacity and the propensity to actualise our collective dreams. Ones performance ability is not determined by your party affiliation, it is a function of your endowment and prowess. Your cerebral quality and innate capabilities. The next political dispensation requires leaders who knows their onus and that must have been demonstrated overtime. Not those who will mesmerise the people with sweet political words. Talk is off course cheap.
IKATIMES: Your Party, the APC is currently plagued with leadership tussle, are you optimistic the party will surmount the crises before its national convention on the 26th of this month?
 RESPONSE; APC like any political party in the world cannot be devoid of tussles. That makes politics robust. Even in our nuclear families, sometimes we have different opinions and dissenting voices to issues  but at the end of the day there are reconciliations, repositions and realignments. We are very optimistic that these issues will be resolved on or before our National Convention coming up on the 26th of March 2022. I am not oblivious of the fact that there is a deliberate attempt by the party leadership to reconcile all warring factions. Things will obviously quieten down sooner that expected and our party will come out greater and stronger in the overall interest and benefit of party faithful and Nigerians in general.
