THE Delta State Peoples Democratic Party has scored Governor Sheriff Oborevwori high even as the All Progressives Congress and Labour Party in the state described his first 100 days as days of borrowing.
Oborevwori was sworn in as the fifth democratically elected Governor of Delta State on May 29, 2023.
A PDP youth support group leader, Mr Ugagaoghene Ogheneyole, while speaking on the governor’s achievement, scored the Oborevwori 90 per cent.
He said, “Oborevwori marks his first 100 days in office as governor, and we find it very sacrosanct and germane to return to the people and account for his stewardship in the last 100 days.
“As a prudent administrator, Governor Oborevwori knew the importance of completing the projects initiated by the past administration.
“Oborevwori had focused on the completion of all ongoing projects initiated by the past administration.
“He approved N5bn to clear arrears, approval of N10,000 monthly palliative to all civil servants, further cutting down the working days of civil servants below level 15 to three days in a week to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal, and approval of N10bn as social investment to fund palliatives for Deltans, among other achievements.”
However, the APC State Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo, and the Delta State LP Chairman, Chief Tony Ezeagwu, on Wednesday slammed the performance of Governor Oborevwori.
They noted that Oborevwori has nothing to celebrate aside from his penchant for more ‘Borrow Borrow.’ They also noted that he is yet to be his own man, adding that he is often told what to do by his predecessor.
“Every policy decision and direction is being teleguided by the immediate past governor (Ifeanyi Okowa) of the state as the puppet master, and the present Governor Oborevwori has continued with the ‘borrow borrow’ policy of his predecessor by borrowing close to N100bn.
“So, the first 100 days of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in office is a celebration of the MORE agenda of more loans, more infrastructural decay, more frustration, and more misery for gullible Deltans,” Onojeghuo said.
Also speaking, Ezeagwu said, “As far as we are concerned, there is nothing to be excited about because the governor has given nothing tangible on the ground and so nothing to show for his first 100 days.
“The Federal Government had allocated N5bn to the state for palliatives, but there is now no visible distribution of these resources within Delta State.
“See Taraba State, where trailer loads of items meant for palliatives were distributed to the people, in the absence of a similar effort in Delta State.”
Ezeagwu added that Oborevwori could have taken immediate steps to alleviate the rising transportation costs by investing in road infrastructure and providing buses for strategic routes connecting towns and villages.
