Senegal Will Be a Tough One – SiaSia

As the Nigerian Team make Preparations to take on hosts Senegal in the semi-final of the CAF Under-23 Africa Cup of Nations, coach Samson Siasia has acknowledged that facing the Senegalese will be a tough task in front of their vociferous fans.

However, he has urged his team members to roll back to 1992 when he scored against Senega lese at the 1992 African Cup of Nations at the Lepold Sedar Senghor Stadium, and go all out with confidence on Wednesday, to get a result that will secure their passage to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

“I would have preferred to play Senegal in the final but I have to do at the semis. It will be a great match because they will have the public behind them and we have to play and win.

“At the Africa Cup of Nations in 1992, I scored here (Leopold Sedar Senghor Stadium), and this is why most Senegalese remember me. I will be around my players to repeat it next Wednesday,” said the former Super Eagles striker.  He stated that he was happy the team reached the semi-final.

“I congratulate my team for not conceding and qualifying for the semi-finals. The most important was to qualify and we have achieved it. We wish we could garner the three points but I’m happy with qualifying and getting closer to Rio de Janeiro.” Siasia fulfilled his pledge of rewarding the team with 100 dollars each.

Nigeria are undefeated after three matches, after winning their first game at the tourney against Mali and drawing the last two with Egypt and Algeria. Only the top three countries will represent Africa at the 2016 Olympic Games .
