Nestle Unfolds Package for Milo Basketball Championship

MILO-Basketball-ChampionshipThe annual Nestle Milo Secondary Schools Basketball Championship continues to blaze the trail in creating a platform for Nigerian Youths to express their sporting talents and showcase their Basketball skills.

This year, outstanding players selected from all the participating schools would form an All-Stars team that would represent Nigeria at the World College Basketball championship and any other international competition to be decided by the Nigeria Schools Sport Federation (NSSF)

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Nestle Milo Plc, Dharnesh Gordhon also stated that this year’s edition is expected to be a non-stop spectacular  display of talents, dedication and determination  to win; noting that the Championship has played a key role in producing many national players and international basketball stars for Nigeria.

“The bulk of the players in the Nigeria Premier League have at one time or another participated in the Milo Basketball championship. Milo remains committed to the development of Basketball in Nigeria”

Meanwhile, the stage is set again as schools which emerged from their state finals converge on the designated conference venues to vie for honours and to earn tickets to the national final slated for Lagos in June, this year.

Champions from the 36 states and Abuja will slug it out in four conferences and the winner of each of the conferences would qualify for the national final. Two lucky losers will also qualify to play in the national finals.

The four conferences are Confluence Conference in Lokoja, Atlantic Conference in Benin City, Central Conference in Akure and Western Conference in Ibadan.

The category Manager Beverages, Nestle Plc, Olufemi Akintola confirmed that at each conference, the first placed teams in both male and female categories would go home with the championship trophies and cash rewards for the development of sports facilities in their schools.

At the end of the conferences, 12 teams (six male and six female) will emerge to play at the grand finale in Lagos.

In keeping with the tradition of the championship, a special training camp would be organised for outstanding players after the tournament.  Nestle Milo  in conjunction with ‘Giants of Africa;  and NBA coaches from the USA; will organise and run a unique Basketball programme called Nestle Milo Top 50 Camp which will hold in August this year.
