N10 Billion Debt-Trapped University Of Benin Forcibly Shutdown Over Protests, Students Refusal To Pay Additional N20,000

DEBT-RIDDEN University of Benin has been shutdown indefinitely over protests and students refusal to pay additional twenty thousand naira for late registration.

An account officer in the University told Trojan News that the Vice Chancellor, Prof Lilian Salami is desperately looking for money to make up for the debt burden weighing down administration of the University.

”Uniben is indebted to the tune of N10 Billion naira and the VC is concerned about this But it is not enough to short-change parents and students alike for the recklessness of the school management”, the source said.

“CLOSURE OF THE UNIVERSITY”

The VC while giving reasons for this action as a step to avoid break down of law and order from the protesting students, also said that all students are to vacate the school hostels not later than 12 noon on Wednesday 15th, September, 2021

After due consultation, and in the overall interest of the general students’ body, the Vice-Chancellor has, on behalf of Senate, approved the closure of the University with immediate effect.

According to the notice, it reads in part, “This is based on security reports to avoid the students’ action being hijacked by hoodlums; and thereby prevent any form of breakdown of law and order within and outside the campuses of the University.

“Accordingly, all students are to vacate the hostels and the University premises not later than 12 noon on Wednesday 15th, September 2021.”
