OGUN State Governor Dapo Abiodun has called for peaceful coexistence in Ibese.
This followed the recent disturbances in the area.
Prince Abiodun said steps are being taken to prevent re-occurrence of the ugly incident in the area or anywhere in the state.
The governor, represented by his Commissioner for Transportation, Gbenga Dairo, spoke after a peace meeting organised by Police Commissioner Edward Ajogun at Ilaro pavilion, with stakeholders in Ibese community.
He said the meeting became imperative to enable the government identify the problems that led to the event of August 2 and get to the root of the matter, so as to proffer solution and take steps that would prevent recurrence.
The commissioner said the government was taking steps to promote peace and harmony among people in the community.
He said the report of the committee as recommended by the stakeholders would be considered, to achieve peace.
The governor recalled that when the crisis broke out, the government dispatched a delegation comprising government officials and officials of security agencies to assess the situation and allay the fears of the residents, visitors and workers.
He said peace had been restored to the area.
He noted that the incident did not warrant the violence that occurred and appealed to the residents and stakeholders to consider amicable solution to any disagreement.
He, therefore, urged the people to promote peace and harmony, as the government would continue its effort to secure lives and property.
Stakeholders at the parley included the lawmakers representing Yewa North 1 and 2, the newly-elected local government chairman, special adviser to the governor on Security, representatives of Dangote Cement Factory, chiefs and baales of the host communities, youth leaders, Hausa community and transport unions in the community.
