Breaking: Police Confirm Kidnap Of Senator Nelson Effiong In Akwa Ibom State

THE Akwa Ibom State Police Command has confirmed the kidnap of Senator Nelson Effiong, a former Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly and former Senator representing Akwa Ibom South (Eket) Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

Effiong, who is an entrepreneur and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was whisked away by four gunmen who were said to have stormed his liquor sit-out in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State, according to sundry media reports.

Police in Akwa Ibom State said the Command had received a report Senator Nelson Effiong.

Effiong was kidnapped in the early hours of Monday, at a bar in Uyo, the state capital.

The gunmen were said to have stormed his liquor sit-out on Oron Road, Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.

The gunmen, according to reports, released gunshots into the air, leading to customers running to safety.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Odiko Macdon, was quoted to have said that the command had been briefed about the incident.

He said “the Command has received that information, and the CP (Commissioner of Police) has ordered an investigation into the matter. I believe that in no distant time we will get more information on it. But as I speak, yes, we have received that report and we are working to ensure he can be rescued.”

Macdon stated that the Commissioner of Police, Amiengheme Andrew, had ordered immediate investigation of the matter.

He sais that the Police would work assiduously to secure the safe release of the victim. (With additional report by 9News Nigeria)
