ANA Abuja Holds General Meeting; Unveils N100m Members Support Fund, Insurance Scheme

ASSOCIATION of Nigerian Authors, Abuja chapter, has held its August general meeting with unveiling of support schemes for writers, book reading and critiquing, and general plans for the Association.
It was a mouth watering evening for authors in Abuja as the chapter unveils N100m ($200,000) support fund for members, group life insurance and assets valuation scheme. Speaking at the monthly event, Taiwo Akerele, the chairman of the chapter maintained that intellectual capital could be quantified into monetary gains for writers and creative individuals in the pen profession.
He said from 2022, writers in Abuja will have opportunity to draw from the funds for publication, marketing, production and packaging of their books for greater profitability. In the same vein, an insurance firm was also invited to unveil a group life insurance for the chapter members, an initiative that has been described as innovative.
The monthly meeting featured poetry rendition, book reading and critiquing, among other discussions.
The occasion was also used to remember out of school children in north-eastern part of Nigeria and to celebrate (in arrears) the 87th birthday of Prof Wole Soyinka.
The event which was also graced by a delegation from the National Library  of Nigeria and other government and non governmental  agencies,  had attendees observe a minute silent prayer in honour of late Mr. Hyacinth Obunseh, a member of the Association who died a week ago.
Goodwill messages from the national secretariat were also read.
